About Punjab Police:
Established in 2002, the Punjab Police operates under the Police Act of 1934. The Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore has branches such as Legal Affairs, Finance and Welfare, Administration, Training, Inspection and Prosperous . Reports from these branches are sent to the Superintendent of Police. The Superintendent of Police has higher powers than the district police, not the Punjab CPO.
Under British rule, judges replaced zamindar with police responsibility and abolished the dargah system. In 1827, Bombay Act XII introduced a similar provision. Bengal retained the Dargah system till 1811 when its partial abolition limited its power.
